Name Change Pending Improvisation Troupe is a five-year-old South Florida-based comedy troupe specializing in Improvisational Theater. Improvisational Theater is the art of creating scenes, characters, situations, and entire plays in an instant, based on suggestions from the audience members. Mostly funny, sometimes poignant, improv actors consistently aim to bring a dose of reality to their work. Current interest in Improvisational Theater has been sparked by the British and American versions of “Who’s Line is it Anyway?” which have done well in the ratings.
After undergoing a couple of changes of personnel, members of NCP (version 3.0) made a business decision in the spring of 2002: noticing that there were at least five other improv groups vying for attention in Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties, NCP chose to create an entirely new form of improvisation.
Dubbed Extreme Improv , this groundbreaking formula calls for 100% interactive audience participation combined with the elements that make traditional improv funny, topped with liberal doses of danger, pain, humiliation, ice, silly string, food, potential drowning, potential loss of consciousness, pharmaceuticals, and partial-to-full nudity. NCP has invented and perfected such unusual games as “Head in a Bucket of…”, “A Flogging Good Time”, “Ice On the Rocks”, “Cram It!”, “Shock Therapy”, “Drug of Choice”, and “Strip Torture”. We are constantly developing and producing new games, with the intent to keep our production fresh.
The sole purpose of Extreme Improv is simple: we want to make the audience laugh out loud. And we want them to walk away remembering us. After watching two 80 year old female audience members joyously swinging a Cat-o’-Nine-Tails or an NCP actor get “clamped” for the fourth time with clothes pins after the audience votes against him, our favorite comment to hear at the end of a show is “I can’t believe you did that!”
Extreme Improv is a very flexible style: we are successful in adapting our show to a variety of audiences, and have played several Orthodox and Conservative Jewish Temples, the Deerfield Beach Garlic Festival, and the 2 nd Annual Improv Comedy Jam to benefit Gilda’s Club. At Cool Beanz Coffee House in Fort Lauderdale, we performed a Saturday 9pm family show, and an 11 pm No Holds Barred adult version.
